Drawing

Learn to translate the world of 3D form onto the 2D picture plane. This skill-oriented class will provide the building blocks to enable you to draw what you see. You will learn shading techniques to enable you to create volume and measurement skills to sharpen your awareness of proportion while studying composition. Draw from clothed live models as well as still life. Students will use charcoal, graphite and pen & ink.

Painting, Drawing & Mixed Media

Children will learn concepts such as line, value, proportion, rhythm, and color theory while their imaginations are actively engaged in projects that encourage self-expression. Small class size and systematic instruction helps to support the budding artist in every child. Critical thinking skills are developed as children learn to talk about art. Students will learn how to use a variety of media including paint, pen and ink, printmaking, collage and clay.

Digital Photography

Learn to use your digital camera to cultivate a critical eye and capture the images you want to create. Work in programs such as Lightroom and Photoshop to download and retouch your digital photos. View the work of the masters of photography during in-class slide lectures. Learn the language of visual expression through group critique and class trips to museums and galleries in NYC. Field trips will be held on Saturdays. Students must have a laptop and a digital camera. One hour is spent on the class and the other on the field trip.

Arts and Craft

Arts and crafts comprise a whole host of activities and hobbies that are related to making things with one's hands and skill. Children will learn crocheting, doll making, sewing, patch work and much more. In Jewelry Making students create personalizes and original pieces.
