Art’s House Schools, Inc. (AHS) is a not-for-profit organization located in Coney Island, Brooklyn. We provide dance instruction in ballet, tap, modern and ballroom dancing. We also provide music lessons in piano, guitar and voice. We cater to children age 3-17 both male and female and instruction for adults in dance and music. Art’s House Dance School opened its doors in October of 2005. Since that time, we have served and influenced the lives of over 1,000 children; these children all live and/or attend school in Coney Island.

Located in Community District 13, Coney Island, AHS serves a community of 106,120 persons as per the Census 2000. Forty-one percent of the population is receiving government subsidies. In 2000, 18 percent of residents’ income was less than half the poverty level, compared to 19 percent in New York City. The community currently hosts ten public high schools, two public intermediate/JHS schools, nine public elementary schools and three special/ other schools. The total enrollment of these schools is over 20,000. In 1997 22.2% of students dropped out of high schools in School District 21 as compared to the 5.3% of students that dropped out citywide according to the Statistical Profile of Brooklyn 21 School District.

Art’s House Dance School serves over seventy students annually. Five percent of AHS’s students are on full scholarship. Ninety percent of them are on a partial scholarship and pay their remaining balance out of pocket. The remaining five percent receive no scholarship and pay their entire tuition out of pocket. Your donation will provide more scholarships to desiring, underprivileged and under-served children.

COVID-19 UPDATE for 2020-2021

As we plan for fall at the Art’s House Schools, we’d like to give you an update on our path to reopening. Under New York State and CDC guidelines and recommendations, we will reopen AHS in three distinct phases:

Phase1: All programs will be delivered virtually.

Dance Parents- If you want your child to have the studio experience at home, we believe dancers will have a better virtual learning experience if they are provided with in-studio tools. While it is not mandatory, we recommend investing in a portable dance floor (and ballet bar, if taking ballet lessons). Purchasing these items is an investment Art’s House Schools are willing to share the cost for; we will cover the cost of one month’s tuition or the price of the dance floors and bar, whichever is less. Phase 2: When deemed safe to have classes in-person, we will move into Phase 2. During this phase, programs will be delivered in a hybrid format blending in-person and online classes. We will provide more information on this hybrid programming at a later date.

Phase 3: When we can safely increase the capacity for in-person classes, AHS will move into Phase 3. While we will continue to offer online instruction, most students will take courses in person.

As always, safety is our priority. The health and well-being of our students, staff, and families are our top priority. If you have any questions regarding the phasing plan, please feel free to call us at 718-996-2000.
